How Steam levels work
Levels run on XP, and XP comes overwhelmingly from crafting badges: a normal trading-card badge is worth 100 XP, foil versions add 100 more, and seasonal sale events hand out bonus XP for cheap tasks. The cost of each level rises every ten levels, which is why early gains feel free and later ones feel like mortgage payments. Levels unlock profile showcases every ten levels and grow your friends-list capacity by five slots per level — but never affect gameplay.

How does the Steam level calculator work?
It reads your public profile through the official Steam Web API: current level, total XP and XP still needed for the next level come straight from Valve's badges endpoint, then the tool applies Steam's leveling formula — each level costs 100 XP more than levels ten below it.
How much XP is a Steam level?
Levels 1–10 need 100 XP each, 11–20 need 200, 21–30 need 300, and so on — every tenth level doubles down on effort. A normal trading-card badge grants 100 XP; foil badges grant another 100 on top.
How many card sets do I need to reach my target level?
Enter a target above and the calculator sums the per-level costs between where you are and where you're headed, then divides by 100 XP — one standard badge set per hundred points. Market prices vary by game, so treat set counts as the unit that matters.
Why can't you calculate my level?
Level data comes from the same endpoint as badges, which requires a public profile. If lookup fails, check Steam → Edit Profile → Privacy Settings and make sure your profile is Public.
